Nacho Cheese Sauce
You can use this Nacho Cheese Sauce as a dip for tortilla chips or as a drizzle over your favorite nachos. If you add cayenne pepper, it becomes slightly spicy and has a creamy, cheesy flavor.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
Instructions:
Melt the butter in a saucepan over a medium heat
Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for one to two minutes or until it becomes light golden in color
Add the milk gradually while continuing to whisk to avoid lumps
For three to five minutes, or until the mixture thickens, keep cooking and stirring
Add the shredded cheddar cheese, paprika, salt, and cayenne pepper if using and turn the heat down to low
Stir until the sauce is smooth and the cheese has melted completely
Before serving, remove from the heat and allow the nacho cheese sauce to cool slightly
Cooling will cause it to thicken
